This morning, screen was pushed out and Cinderella was gone!

I finally, finally found her, but she was mad and I barely got her to come back in the house! I looked at the window and the nail had just pushed out through the wood. I tried nailing it back in, but the wood just crumbled (built in 1925!). So I nailed a HUGE nail in another place on the window sill. But when I left the house this morning, I shut ALL the windows until I can take care of them. It's pretty chilly, so she won't get too warm with the windows shut.

Looking back, it's her favorite window, the one in my avatar, and I think it just gave way, she FELL out, and couldn't jump back in. I'm taking her in tomorrow to be microchipped, which I had already planned on doing -- the Humane Society will microchip and register your cat in the national registry for $20 every Thursday afternoon.

I thought I was going to have a heart attack and just die right on the spot when I saw the screen hanging out of the window.

:( my word im glad she is back.

Yesterday one of my ferals broke the screen door .. she is hiding under the house ..... and she is the very wild one so im distraught.

I hope you get her out of there. Are there any treats she LOVES that you can tempt her with?? :(

Yeah ... as soon as it stops friggin raining ... i need to use a damm boat to get to under the house... (not really)

The trouble is off course she isnt spayed and is on heat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! damm the rescue !!!! i have written a letter to our local paper ...im so fed up .. this cat will almost certainly come in pregnant.

Be careful what you wish for! You've been eyeing all the kittens on the Forum lately saying it makes you want a little one again.....

Seriously, I hope she doesn't get pregnant - being feral and all. You don't have any "cat traps?" Our Humane Society "lends" them out for $50 - then you get your money back when you return it. I realize you're not in the States, though...

Well the resident tom cat is hanging around .. blast him he is the father of the little sods barfield and buggie!!!

No traps ...... I can get one in the city MAYBE but its a 2 hour drive and then I have to beg the same rescue people that have dropped me in the poo.

just hope it stops raining !!! if it were blue it would be easy she wont miss her evening snack for anything besides I call her and she comes to me.

Oh goodness. I'm so glad you found her! My palms are clammy just thinking about it. We used to live in a 5th floor apartment, and I was so paranoid about leaving the windows open while we went out. The cats used to scratch on the screen and swat bugs through it, and I was certain that one day the screen would pop out from the pressure and the cat would go plummeting down five stories and I would never find her again. After that I was so stressed leaving the house that I just always kept the windows closed.

Even now, I'm afraid of some vandal breaking a window in the house while I'm gone and the cats escaping. I'm such a worrywort.

Glad that Cinderella is safe and sound and hadn't wandered too far!

I got SO scared when I read this topic title! *gasp*

I'm so glad she's back inside! You oughtta get on the horn with the Lord of the Land and get that fixed. Tell him to get it done pronto so it doesn't cause anymore heart stoppage at the Cat Forum!

Thanks, you guys!

Even though it was horrible, and I freaked out and had a couple of good crying spells, imagine if it had happened AFTER I left for work!?! I wouldn't have seen her alive again. So it was a blessing in disguise (now, in hindsight, that I've calmed down and can be rational) in that it happened while I was home, and I can take care of the windows (or keep them closed if they're beyond re-nailing) and she'll be microchipped. :thumb

8O I'm glad that you found her! Most microchip agencies will sell you a collar tag with info and the microchip ID/number to call.

We also put a tag on Mac that says REWARD and our phone number in addition to him being microchipped - the SO says it's an invitation to steal the cat, but that's a risk I'm happy to take just in case he gets out. The reflective collar/tag would also protect him if he gets out on the road.

That's an excellent idea! :D

Oh geez, thats so scary. Sassy took a tumble out a window just a couple of months ago when the screen frame broke. I've rebuilt all the frames since then. And she was sitting on the back deck looking confused when I dashed outside.

I imagine that your still feeling a tad ill about it, I was kind of upset for awhile myself. But just be happy she's home and safe, and give her some "xter kisses". :D

Mike,

I remember that happening very clearly, and I checked all my windows and they all had the hook and the nail, but I should have checked the wood and I may have seen how weak it was. I still do feel ill. I almost fell to my knees when I saw the window, it was like someone punched me in the stomach! I'm just so glad it happened before I went to work.

Oh Boy....my heart jumped into my throat and my stomach dropped about a foot when I read this subject line. Glad she stuck around....she obviously knows she's got a good thing going there.

The more I thought about it....I decided that this was all just a plot by Cinderella. She was saying to herself "all Mom's been talking about on the Cat Forum is that dang purring interloper, I want some publicity too"

And so, she concocted a scenario that was sure to put her back in the limelight, right where she belongs.

The wood is so rotted and old, I think I'll just keep the windows closed most of the way. She can still see out of all of them, and the one she escaped from has a wooden t.v. tray propped up next to the little sill, so she can still look out that one, too.

Could it have been because of Keesha? Maybe it has nothing to do, but I'm just wondering, you know. Maybe she's jealous?

#25 ·
Well, as of today, Cinderella is microchipped! (And I went on line and changed Keesha's microchip info to reflect her new ownership. :) )

But, OMGosh! You'd think I had a poisonous snake in the flippin' cat carrier with her! She's the most quiet and gentle and tender cat in the world, but in the cat carrier, I'm so embarassed! She yells "Noooooooooooo!" just like a person!

Of course, once out of it, little Sybil turns back into Cinderella. :angel

They fell in love with her at the Humane Society. One lady asked if I was turning her in because she wanted her! As if! :D
