Hey guys!

The craziest thing happened on our way home tonight. On our street outside, a pretty busy one, we saw this little kitty almost get creamed...so I jumped out of the car and I called to him, and he came *right* to me! So, I grabbed him....and now he's in our bathroom hehe. Psi seems very curious about him, but Samhain is pissed.

I will call about taking him in to get checked out tomorrow, and I will call the adoption agency. Either we will foster him until they can find him a home, or we will just keep him (I kinda want to keep him hehe). He looks like a little Psi (solid grey with faded tabby stripes) - he's so cute. I'd estimate he is only about 6 months old tho, and he's not neutered yet. We just put him in our cat carrier with some towels and fed him a little. I'm assuming he won't need to use the potty until tomorrow, but it's no big deal to clean up if I have to. We'll lock him up overnight, I think he'll feel safer in the carrier. I hope he doesn't have anything catching that'll affect Samhain and Psi, but they are both vaccinated.

He has some strange semi-missing fur areas. There is almost a ring around the mid-length of his tail of fur that looks like it is just starting to grow back in, along with a crescent-shaped line of fur about 8 inches long on his back that is in the same hair-growth stage. Maybe he was in a fight a while ago and his hair is just starting to grow back??

I just feel so good right now having saved him from certain death, and perhaps preventing more unwanted kittens out there. It happened so fast!! How crazy!!

I'll let ya know how it goes tomorrow. We already called him Sigma to match his big brother's greek-letter name, Psi.

Wow

Wow that's really amazing the little kitty came right up to you
My sister once saw a cat in the street and mistook it for our cat (She thought our lazy little Chibi actually stepped outside... ha ha) so my sister jumped out of the car and called to the stray cat. The cat looked at my sister then ran in the trees. My sister was crying thinking we lost Chibi forever, but luckily it wasn't our kitty.
That kitty must have really been thankful you came along when you did. He probably feels a lot more comfortable now that he is in a home and among fellow kitties, even if one of your kitties isn't all too thrilled hehe. I'm sure in time your Samhain will probably (maybe hopefully) like the new comer and maybe even want to take on the job of role model ! :D

I think because the kitty came to you like he did he'd be pleased if he could stay with you permanently. (*Then if those other kitties pick on him he can call you to protect him from the bullies ;)*)

Hope the new comer is well and in good health!
Cat fights can cause a limb and a paw.

I am also very happy that you saved him from certain death!
Will check back tomorrow

Hehe thanks! So am I!

He's fine, I just checked up on him. He is eating and drinking, but no litterbox yet. Psi is so curious about him, and he wants out so that they can play, but I don't want them to come in contact yet. I have another hour to wait until I can call the adoption agency. I am hoping they will pitch in and pay half for his check up if we take him to their vet.

I'll post an update soon, and I'll take some pictures!

That must be such a great relief to have saved Sigma!
I have been in situations before, like XChibi mentions, where we stopped the car to get the kitties near roads to come to us but they wouldn't :(..they must have been plain feral.
Were there any housing developments in the area he could have come from? If he belongs to people that leave him out near a busy road then he doesn't need to return.
Let us know how things go
AS for adding a new cat - it is so hard to resist their sweetness. I wish I could keep each of the twelve I am fostering

Hey Aonir,

I was just calling the adoption agency to see if they'd help with the vet fee. We'll definitely keep our eyes out for any flyers and whatnot. I am just of the opinion that if you don't neuter your cat, and you let him outside near a busy street such as the one that we rescued him on, you shouldn't have a cat to begin with. *shrug* Plus I asked about the missing hair on his tail, and the vet says the skin underneath is healthy and thinks that someone got a hold of some clippers and cut his fur off. And he was VERY defensive when the vet was holding him down to get blood from his leg. Who knows what he could have gone thru in the past..

Anyway, the vet said he's clean. He doesn't have worms and his feline leukemia came back negative, so we got him his first round of vaccinations. From looking at his teeth, they think he is about 1 yr, but he is much smaller than Psi, so I dunno. I want to wait until he uses the litterbox and has good poos before we let him wander around. Plus he is exhausted, heh.

I'll take some pictures when he's up and walking around.

Poor kitty. But he coulda got out on accident, it's just that you never know! :) It's great that you took him for a vet checkup. I was more concerned that kitty may had ringworm. That is a cause of hairloss in just random spots. Did the vet rule that out?

I agree, I just don't feel comfortable returning him to such a home. The fact that he isn't neutered yet by 8-10 months of age is a reflection on the kind of owners that he had. I am thinking only of his well-being and I think that he'll be *much* happier here.

Vet said she is pretty sure it isn't ringworm, but didn't do the test for it just yet. She said to keep an eye on his fur to see if he gets more bald spots. Ringworm classically causes hairloss in circular patches, and he definitely doesn't have any of those. She didn't think the test was necessary yet; we put him through a lot today. In fact, I just gave him a bath hehe. He was okay in the tub; more mellow than I expected. He is actually a very mellow cat and you can pick him up and cuddle him and tough him while he's eating, but as soon as you restrain him in some way, he freaks.

We let him out of the bathroom for a while to explore. I think Psi and him will be really good friends but Samhain is still pretty mad. She even hissed at Psi :/ We had to put Sigma back in the bathroom tho because he sprayed twice, grrrrrross. I want to get him neutered ASAP and I'm praying that it'll stop. Ugh, I do *not* want to deal with a spraying cat..

He is doing well tho - frantically cleaning himself heh. He feels safe in his cage and he has a ton of blankets so he'll keep warm. I'll take some pictures tomorrow when he's fresh and fluffy. I love him already.

Oh Noooooo! Cat Spray! I have a little experience in that department! I briefly had a second cat...thus began the cat spray...I battled the situation for 6 months before I did return the new cat. I did a thorough house cleaning and continued using the Feliway product for another 2 months after returning Bootsie.

I believe in Feliway!!! If you decide to keep Sigma...I would consider investing in Feliway...even though it is expensive. Start using it before and after he is neutered and you may need to keep him contained a little longer...I pray he stops spraying! I pray his behavior is not too built in him already!

B's Mom,

Can you tell me a bit more about Feliway? How is it used? Is it a spray that you spray all over your house or...?

I think he sprayed in three different places. Two of them aren't fabric so they're easy to clean, but he also sprayed on the couch, ACK! What is the best way to get the scent out?? Isn't it true that they tend to spray places they have sprayed before?

He really wants out of the bathroom but we have to keep him in there until Monday when we can get him neutered. I do *NOT* want him spraying anywhere else.

I was also considering Feliway to try and calm Samhain down anyway. When I checked at PetCo it was $30. Maybe I can find it cheaper online.

Any advice you have for me about the spraying I will GREATLY appreciate. I can leave him in the bathroom as long as I have to. Neither of us will like it, but if it'll correct his behavior, it has to be done.

Here is the link for Feliway, you can read and read and read!
http://www.feliway.com/

What I used to neutralize odor was Natures Miracle for Cats.
Now I have heard opinions from others they didnt think the product worked that well....take a poll on that one! I was pretty lucky because
the cats were marking 2 area's over and over.
We did have to throw out a nice storage cabinet and spray was dripping down the wall onto an area of carpet. My solution was to remove the carpet, I treated the flooring with Natures Miracle and moved a big dresser over the spot! hehe

1 more thing I invested in was a urine black light!

My husband was laughing at me walking around the house in the dark with this thing....but I felt so reassured after checking around with it.
We had a puppy at the time too! :D
Both of these boys were neutered by 6 months of age...it was a territorial situation I had and they never got close to one another in the 6 months time...(hubby says it was closer to a year???)

Thanks B's Mom!

He's getting neutered on Monday so we're gonna wait until after that to see if it corrects the problem. If not, we'll invest in the diffuser. I also think it'd be good for Samhain to calm down a bit. It's kinda expensive - $45 at PetCo. I am praying the neutering will help. *crosses fingers*

I'll update on Monday.

Sorry for bringing my dumb thread back from the dead, but I just wanted to say that Sigma is fine. He was up and around late last night so we let him out for an hour or so and watched him closely. He didn't spray once. I think Psi and him will be good friends and Samhain is better than I expected, but I'm not sure she really knows what's going on.

I think I'm taking him home with me this summer for my mom, and if she really decides after 8 weeks that she doesn't want him, I'll bring him back and we'll keep him.

Sorry, still no pictures. Tonight I will.

P.S. We drove around this weekend to look for flyers, but no luck. There are many huge apartment complexes around here (i.e. thousdands of apartments), so he could've come from Anywhere. I think he's happier now with us, anyway.
