We celebrated last night by going to this fancy Italian place we hadn't tried yet. It was sooo yummy!!

We decided to celebrate early because I am getting my bottom braces on tomorrow morning (& won't be able to eat for a week + a lot of pain) and DH proposed last year on 2/12. So we combined it into one.

Whoah you all didn't waste any time getting married! I thoroughly approve of that!!! That's very sweet. I am hoping so much that one of my best girlfriends gets engaged tomorrow.

DH is making dinner tomorrow night and I am making the dessert. We will enjoy a bottle of wine (or two :) ) and relax and do nothing. This will be a rare treat in the middle of the week. I can't wait.

My grandmother died a few weeks ago and JB's idea was, instead of spending a bunch of money on flowers and expensive chocolate and gifts, we combined most of the money we'd normally spend on each other and got things for my mom and aunt. We bought them bubble bath and PJs and stuffed animals--just fun things like that. For the 14th he's cooking me dinner at home and I'm getting Snickers bars and a rosebud from the grocery store. It will be just as fun and romantic and we get to make my mom and aunt feel good.

We'll be apart for Valentine's Day, but Erik will be home last Thursday night for a 4 day weekend. :D

He's got a surpise evening planned for Friday to celebrate our anniversary (Feb. 1), my b-day (Feb. 11) and V-day...not sure of any details but I'm excited!

we decided not to buy each other anything this year and just take comfort in that we are together and probably just snuggle and watch movies at home.

He's getting a book of things that he can request for the rest of the month and a dvd. I have no clue what he's getting me. I hope its not real flowers, they are so pretty but they don't last. and i really don't want jewelry....... i'd rather have a good dinner at home and watch a movie with snuggles!

That is really sweet!! I'm sure your mom and aunt will be so happy. Very nice. :D

I will have the most boring Valentine's Day of all -- I have class tomorrow night and won't be home until after 10 PM. :x This happened to me on Valentine's Day last year, too. At least my professor brought chocolates. :)

So, I will have to do my celebrating another night...

We don't celebrate v-day.. i think it is rediculious.. you shouldn't have a calendar tell you when to buy gifts that say I love you. We do things for each other all year round. whenever we see something.. dont' need a calendar for that!

With you 100% on that. I hate Valentines day. I hate the fact that people feel pressured into buying something on that particular day...just because the card companies tell you to. I work valentines day and my boss makes such a big deal out of it, heart shaped garlic breads and little hearts sprinkled on the table...what about the people who just want to go for some dinner on their own, or get away from the smoochy couples? At least the tips are good...men trying to impress their dates!

I know that it can be a tough "holiday" and, yes, people SHOULD tell each they love one another throughout the year, but there is nothing wrong with having a specific day devoted to love. My opinion, btw, has changed about this. I used to loathe Valentine's Day when I was in college.

The real problem is the commercialism surrounding it and that folks think they have to buy gifts to demonstrate their love.

I'm with you, too -- Valentine's is way too commercial.

But...just wait until you have kids! I celebrate it because my kids love celebrating holidays, making goopy cards and giving little gifts. They really look forward it.

We do talk about the commercialization of holidays and what those days really mean, just so they understand. But we do enjoy a bit of the fun, too.

Yay, I think when you have or are a kid then things like this are fun. I just object, like you, to the commercialisation of it. I was in the card shop before and the women that worked there kept telling the men that were buying cards that they had 'let the side down'???? How? They are probably lovely to their partners all year round, yet people make judgements on their credability as a partner on this one day.
