My cat loves vaseline. I give him some each morning because he vomits hairballs almost daily. Since I've been giving him vaseline, no vomitting.

My vet mentioned that hairball medication is mostly vaseline.

Will vaseline pose any problems for my 3 year old domestic shorthair?
Thanks.

Make sure it isn't medicated

Just make sure it's not strongly scently like Vix Vapor Rub - That stuff can really make them sick. If it's just plain, unmedicated vaseline, then no, I don't think it would hurt him.

Why "medicate" against hariballs? It´s natural! If you want to prevent hairballs, brush your cat every day and give him/her food that prevents hairballs (it´s not very expensive).

I don´t think vaseline is good for the cat if you make it a habit giving the cat vaselin. Once in a while is probably OK, but don´t make a habit of it.

We grow cat grass for our cat to help her pass the hair thru her system and she just loves the stuff. Yes, the hairball stuff is mostly petroleum gelly but I don't think Vaseline is forumlated for cats the way that the hairball stuff is. Plus, the cat stuff is not that expensive - maybe get the cat stuff or try the cat grass and the hairball food. Or just call your vet and see what he/she says. Let us know, I'd be interested to hear the vet's opinion.
