It's probably the kitten's extra weight pushing it down and trapping air (or moisture) underneath. The air or what have you starts to warm and expand. The vibration is caused by it escaping.
Vibrating Kitten
I discovered this completely by accident - one of the kittens climbed on top of the water boiler and because it's a little wobbly, the whole thing started vibrating. I tried it with all the others and they all start vibrating when I sit them on top.

OMG magic! I just had flashbacks to when Waffles was that little. I need a shrink ray so I can make him teeny again!
I just want to clarify - the water boiler is NOT on...you can see the plug to the left of it. I would never do something like that to an animal. The boiler is sitting on top of one of the trays from my toaster oven and it wobbles a little bit - as the kitten tries to balance on top of the boiler, she causes it to shake back and forth.It's probably the kitten's extra weight pushing it down and trapping air (or moisture) underneath. this happens if they stand on anything that isnt completely stable. they are trying to stable themselves, and so their legs just kind of shake. My kittens do it when they stand on top of this box I have in with them. its soo funny

Kittens have incomplete neurological systems and probably what you are seeing is the phenomenon called "tetany"; which is where muscles, in an effort to keep control of a situation and pushed beyond their capacity will literally vibrate as the kitten tries to hold on to his place on top of the canister. You will also see tetany when kittens that young are trying to crawl up or down something using their claws. Their bodies are still learning to use the muscles smoothly and correctly and due to the literal training taking place between the muscles and nerves, you get that little short circuit between the muscle and the nerve impulses that show up as the shaking, or tetany.
