I would like to get a live Christmas tree this year, but there are so many different kinds! I want to be sure to get a tree that is safe for my cat if he happens to eat the needles or nay part of it.

Great question, I was wondering the same thing! To add to this, what about other Christmas plants? I've heard that pointsettas are poisonous so I didn't want to get one of those, what about a Christmas cactus? Is this poisonous too?

Yes, poinsettas are very poisonous, as are lillies.

Not sure about trees and christmas catci.

And don't forget don't use any tinsel ("icicles" or garland) for decorations.

Not sure what kinds of trees are safe for cats to possibly chew on. Good question though. I hope someone out there knows the answer because I'm curious now. I have a fake tree so I never thought about it.

I have a fake tree to, so I havent had that problem. However, last year (we only had two cats then)I decorated with glass bulbs.Big mistake!! My cats climb the tree and they knocked the bulbs all over the floor. They all broke of course and it was a mess. Luckily no one was hurt.
I am really dreading the tree this year with all 7 cats! I dont think it matters what I decorate with I am almost positive my tree is going to be ransacked on a regular basis!!!

LoL lilly i know how you feel, last year i had 1 cat, and she was too miserable (a real cat version of scrooge!) to go near the tree, and now with 5, 3 little rascals, i think we should get a competition going of how many times the tree gets knocked over or how many borbles etc get broke lol

speaking of christmas tho, i cant wait tho, in the january sales last year i got a great fibreoptic tree (6ft) with different coloured lights. ive seen the same one in the shops this year for around £130, in the sales when homebase was selling them off cheap i paid £20 for mine, and saved it for this year!! *huge grin* i cant wait to put it up, oooooooooooooh im getting all excited about christmas now!

My Christmas tree has been up for less than 24 hours... So far Elly's knocked down about 10 bulbs (with one broken).

Punky's well behaved, she just likes to sit under the tree.

I have a fiberoptic multicolor lights tree but its fake. The only thing my cats do is swat at it. Hehe I come home and the bottom half of the tree is hanging down to the ground b/c they beat at it or something hehe :wink:
