Hi, I have a very specific 'problem'.
I have two indoor cats (5years)and I am slowly introducing them to the outside world.
Last year I also took in two abandoned kittens because I didn't want them outside in the winter. My cats hated them so I found a friend to take them in after 8 months of being raised by me. Sadly he had to leave the country but wanted to come back as soon as he got another visa. We had to give them to a shelter where they roam free but get fed. Plan was to pick them up 2 months later but he never got another visa...
They have been there for about 8 months now and I feel like I should get them. I cannot have them inside because of my cats but I was thinking to get them a small house outside. We do have some small cat families outside that are very regularly fed and taken care of. At the shelter there's hundreds of other cats so I know it would be a better environment in that way.
Should I go and get them?

If they are being fed and safe and warm I would keep them at the shelter. If you plan to keep them outside I myself would not choose that option. Too much worry of predators cats coyotes foxes etc.. and worried they will get lost and not come back. If you want them you can bring them in your home and keep them in a separate bedroom but don’t let them out. I am not one for outside cats. Actually all my pets are ferals or strays outside living is harsh in my area. They wouldn’t survive. And all my cats became couch potatoes. It just takes a lot of patience and time and love. I can image you feel sad but always remember do what’s good for them. It very hard ferals living on the outside.

I have that in mind thta is actually more of a reason for me to get them. I don't have a spare bedroom anymore like when I raised them so that's not an option. The "shelter" is literally only a feeding station. They have cages but that's for kittens and sick cats only. They are closer to main roads and are in a city. Predators we don't have too many as I live on an island in the Mediterranean. I am also not one for outdoor cats however the area I moved to is very cat friendly. That's what made me wonder if I should.
They would have more food, less other cats and dogs around, regular cuddles and what is the thing that made me question: actual shelter from cold and rain

I'd like to add that this is also a personal decision, don't worry about it being a moral one because as much as I love cats, they are just cats. I believe they're better off with somebody who worries about them rather than a shelter taking care of them in most cases. as long as you can provide for the cats, then go get them.
