My cat was doing that and he had stones. My fiancees parents paid for the surgery--it was very expensive. It was hurting him to go to the bathroom--I think he was associating the pain with the litterbox or something. I know that you said it wasn't a UTI--when was the cat last seen by a vet? My vet also said that if a cat can smell another cat--like maybe if an outdoor cat is marking the outside of the house--then the indoor cat will react by marking inside. Is the kitty's "kitchen bathroom spot" near a wall?
