Your cats' favorite toys?

I'm in the market for some new cat toys. We play with Da Bird daily, and a treat ball with a few kibbles in it. Other toys have come and gone, as they've been destroyed. Ollie's favorite was a tiny stuffed lion from a happy meal but it finally saw its last day. I tried others very similar down to the brand and he ignores them. If McDonalds ever has them again I will have to stock up! I think maybe they were called Only Hearts or something. Walmart had some by the checkout last year and I got a rabbit and a bear but no luck. Maybe I should have put them in a bag with some fast food lol.

Anyway, how many cats like those circuit ball things? Or the round thing that looks like a mouse running around under a blanket? What else? I would love to know what others have and what their cats actually play with. Thanks!

The laser pointer and Neko flies (kinda similar to Da Bird, but they have a lot more attachments) are favorites in my house. Both of mine are scared of things that make noise, so I haven't tried any of the motorized toys.

The circular flat plastic toy with the "mouse" beneath makes nearly no noise, the little motor runs quite silently. This is the one you may have seen on TV and can be found in variety stores (Walgreen).

Speaking of laser pointers, I often use the laser pointers on a couple of my pistols (unloaded!) and the cats love chasing that red dot!

That cat toy that was advertised on TV, the circular flat plastic with the circulating "mouse" beneath it? Our cats really enjoy it. But as with all toys, cats get bored after a while.

Most cat toys are designed for the human to think as "cute" but can be harmful, due to small parts that can be swallowed.

But there are two excellent toys that you can get, and I think one is called "Tuffy mouse" -- it's a simple little cube of hard felt with a thick ropy tail sticking out. It only looks like a mouse in a cat's mind but it has zero little sequined ears or eyes to be eaten. Some vets have this for sale.

Another great toy is what we call "Biggie Mouse" and it's great for very active cats. It's a huge, toughly made flat "mouse" shape that's about 6" long by 5" wide, and has a very long thick and ropy tail. It's indestructible and the cats love "beating up" this Biggie Mouse and then using it for a comfy pillow.

A bit of caution... We often see "cute" photos with cats playing with a ball of yarn. This is quite dangerous as cats (especially kittens) can swallow the threads they unravel and give them bad intestinal problems. Never let a cat play with anything that's "stringy" or that can be unraveled.

Feathers you find on the street (usually from pigeons) are another no-no, because they can contain mites. Instead, buy feathers from a cat store where the feathers are commercially cleansed first.

Ah yes, the laser pointer is one I have been meaning to replace. Ours broke. I want to get a nice selection of toys so we can switch them out and keep him interested. This is especially important since he has a habit of waking us up at 3 or 4 in the morning so it has been our mission to keep him active during waking hours. I don't want to jinx myself, knock on wood, and all that, but it seems to be working. Chasing my kids is also a fun game of his.

recently, Belle and Sadie have discovered the corks from my wine bottles.
The slight graduation in size as it gets towards the top make it roll in a big circle, making it delightfully unpredictable and great fun. lol

I always say, one of the neatest things about cats is their toys don't have to cost a penny and can be the craziest things

Hmm, wine corks are a good idea! Mine also love the plastic lids to milk jugs as well as the little ring things that keep them attached. They swat them around the kitchen floor and slide all over the place chasing them.

Ollie used to love plastic easter eggs but I gave him one recently and he ignored it. Last week I got a new laser pointer and he ignores that too. What he does play with: boxes. I cut a 2" square out of a large cereal box that holds 2 bags, from Sam's, and he puts little things in and out of the box via the square hole. He also squeezes himself into the box and looks out the hole. This is his newest favorite toy. I tend to bring home random boxes and then eventually throw them away and bring home another one. I'm thinking about building some kind of obstacle course out of boxes, I can get plenty at work.
