Baking soda in litter causing paws to peel

Hello, I noticed that my the bottom of my cats paws are peeling. They are not inflamed or seem to bother him in any way. I admire his toe beans often and the peeling is recent, the only change being that I accidentally bought the cat litter with baking soda… Can baking soda dry out and irritate a cat’s paw pads?? I’m switching out the litters now but is there anything else I should be doing?

I mean essentially baking soda does pull moisture. What i found when researching this is:

While baking soda is generally considered safe for occasional, minimal use on cat paws, excessive or prolonged exposure can potentially cause peeling or irritation. Baking soda, while a common household product, is alkaline and can disrupt the natural pH balance of a cat's paws, especially if left on for too long or if used repeatedly.

I would say that a vet Visit is in the cards to make sure and let us know what the Vet says.
