Best kitty treats

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows any really good organic kitty treats? Whiskas temptations treats are the usual fare for Mooky, but I'm wondering if you've tried (well, not you personally hopefully) any good & healthy ones recently? I found Heidi's treats online, might order from them. Anyone tried em? any other recommendations, perhaps something unusual?

Thanks!

Andrey

Dehydrated or freeze-dried chicken or other whole meat is about as natural and healthy as you can get. If you have a dehydrator, it's much cheaper to make your own treats, and you'll know exactly what is and isn't in them. Just slice up some raw chicken or other whole meat and pop it into the dehydrator.

Like Cool Cat, I too use freeze-dried chicken or fish treats. I use a brand called "Pure Bites". There is only one ingredient -- chicken or fish, depending on the flavor. No other chemicals, additives, grains, etc. My kittens love these. Pure Bites also make a freeze-dried liver treat (only ingredient is liver), but my kitties turn their nose up at this one.

What a fabulous idea! It just so happens that I have a dehydrator... THANKS!

Despite a forum search, I couldn't find a thread about the "best cat treats." Does anyone have a recommendation? I used to feed my cat "Pounce" treats until I looked at the label and found that the second ingredient was "Animal Digest." What is that, you may ask?

Animal Digest is a common ingredient used in pet foods. A cooked-down broth made from specified or unspecified parts of animals (depending on the type of digest used). If the source is unspecified (e.g. "Animal" or "Poultry", the animals used can be obtained from any source, so there is no control over quality or contamination. Any kind of animal can be included: "4-D animals" (dead, diseased, disabled, or dying prior to slaughter), goats, pigs, horses, rats, misc. roadkill, animals euthanized at shelters, restaurant and supermarket refuse and so on.
Roadkill...wow...who knew. Since then I've been more into reading labels and right now my cat is enjoying "Temptations" but I'm not so sure they are any better.

Like Hoofmaiden I give mainly raw treats. (Raw) chicken hearts are a favorite here!!! They are a very nice size for a treat.

Chester adores live crickets so he gets them as a treat whenever I go to a pet store that has them. I'm sure all the others would love crickets as well BUT Chester won't share:p

Freeze dried (or dehydrated) meat are great as well:wink

My girls love Zukes, & Bonito Flakes(their favorite). I purchase the Bonito Flakes online on Amazon, large red bag w/ large writing in black. I found Kitty Kaviar is mostly small bits, the bag I get has mostly large strips & thicker flakes. I like Greenies too but my pet store is always out of them but we use EVO too. Hope you find what you need!
