Best Natural Cat Litter??

I've always wondered about the other forms of cat litter out there (besides the clay) but I've always been to afraid to try them completely. I've mixed my tidy cats with swheat scoop before and I hated it because the smell I thought was worse and the swheat scoop would fall apart easy and not stay clumped. Since then I haven't tried others. I want to change because I know the dust can cause respiratory issues but I want to change to one that works. So any suggestions?? It must clump and not fall apart easily like the swheat scoop I tried did. Or I'm open to other suggestions like the paper pellets if there's some magical way they work better?

Thanks!

I know people have mixed feelings abt World's Best Cat Litter, but I really like it. Some people think it has a smell but I don't smell anything. And I live in a tiny two bedroom NY apt. :) it does a good job of clumping and masking odors, too. I also like that it's flushable, and that it's natural. I'm wary of using clay litter since I read about silica dust and the harm it can do to both cats and people.
My only complaint is that it can track pretty easily, so I have to sweep around the box daily and sometimes dust/lintroll furniture if he jumps on the (fabric) couch after using the litter. But in my opinion, the benefits outweigh that so I've kept using it.

Don't use paper pellets (like Yesterday News). They don't hold smell at all (if not making it worse).

I use wood pellets (and love it), but it's non-clumping. Many ppl here on this forum like World's Best a lot, so you might want to give it a try :)

I've heard time and time again how great Worlds Best is.... I've just never broken down and spent the money on it. I get tidy cats for really cheap on my military base. 20 pounds of the power blend for only like 6 dollars compared to ten or more dollars it would cost off post.... I don't remember if I've seen the Worlds Best cat litter there though. I'll have to check...

Um what kind of wood pellets do you use? I mean is there a brand of cat litter that uses wood pellets?? I don't think I've ever seen it.

Feline Pine is a brand that use pine pellets as cat litter. If I remember correctly, they have clumping version now. I've also seen another wood pellets based litter in Petsmart, but I cannot remember the name.

The pellets I use are not made as cat litter. I got them at department store's (Rona) garden center, around $6 for a 40lb bag. I see you are at US, so maybe you can shop it at Home Depot if you want to give it a try. Just make sure to buy the all-nature ones without anything else added.

I use the same plastic scoop as most ppl use. Because it's non-clumping, so I only need to scoop poops (urines are absorbed by the pellets). I simply scoop the stools into toliet and flush them. There could be some pellets sticking on stools, but since the pellets break down into sawdusts when getting wet, they won't clog toilet. Then I throw away the entire box about once a week (or whenever there are too much sawdusts), wash the box, and put new pellets in. That's really minimal work :D

I only found out Feline Pine is Pine and the Pee Wee I use is Wood. The sawdust is dry and odor control is good. Kitty's feet remains dry (Anyway, are kitty's feet wet from using other litter?). As I am using the sifting 2 layer system, so sawdust gets to the bottom, no need to clear urine clump. I know Feline Pine has a similar system. I just need to remove the sawdust from bottom tray once a week or whenever its full (sometimes 5days). As for poop, I picked it up with a plastic bag, doesn't clump like other litter I've read. It doesn't cover poop smell all that well though, but each time kitty pee, it smell of wood, not urea.

I have used paper pellet for a short period. It's only good for 3 days, after which I need to replace the whole box otherwise it stinks. I actually quite like paper pellet, but it certainly is more expensive.

We had several bags of Yesterday's News donated at the animal shelter. I hated it. It's like impossible to clean and the pee is absorbed quite well but it doesn't clump. We just didn't clean the boxes for a couple days and then emptied the entire thing.

Ya, that's a problem with paper, last only a couple of days, 3days for me, must empty the entire thing. But for hygiene, I like that I can just dump the entire stuff away, but that costs money, lol. Its S$20+ per month as compared to S$17.80 that lasts me 6mths (Pee Wee).

Zilla, if you wanna try pellet, I suggest you find someone who can give you some to try 1st, cos I've read that some kitties hated it, cos it's not too comfortable on their paw. I used pellet from day1, so ET doesn't get the chance to make comparison.

Peewee is a Sweden brand?? I'm guessing that's not available here.... I've never seen it at least... I think I might try the Feline Pine original. The reviews on the clumping one arnt very good. But I also read they changed the formula on the original and some people arnt very happy. Does anyone here use Feline Pine now?? If it doesn't work I'll probably break down and get a bag of Worlds Best to try and see what all the fuss is about.. :)

I recently started using Cat's Best Nature Gold, but I don't know if you can get that in the US, it's a European brand. It's plant fibre pellets and looks a bit like wood pellets, it's not as fine as World's Best. I really like it - it clumps and holds the odour quite well, and you can flush it down the toilet and it's not dusty at all. My cat seems to prefer it as well, I don't think she likes WB that much. I still mix it with a bit of WB because I had some left and it doesn't seem to clump quite as well without that mixed in, I might keep doing that.

Oh that sounds like a good deal! Maybe I will do that! So I'm guessing everyone here pretty much uses Worlds Best or wood pelleted brands (feline pine) since I'm not getting any other suggestions. Isn't the new cat litter made by Blue a corn litter like the Worlds Best?? I wonder how it fairs

I know you said you want a clumping litter, but I use wood stove pellets for my ferrets. I would use themm for Matrix, but you have to transition them onto it slowly, and with fosters coming and going, I don't want any accidents because they're not used to it

Feline Pine has litter boxes that have a grid underneath, so the dissolved pellets can go under.
I only pay $7 for a 40 lb bag of it, and it is BY FAR the best odor absorber I've found.
Sorry for any typos, I'm on my phone.

I currently use World's Best, but am planning to try other brands because it is so expensive! I love that it can be flushed, it doesn't seem to track too much, and it is much less dusty than other litters I've tried. On the back of the bag, there's an estimate that one 14 lb bag should last something like 28 days for two cats. One bag lasts barely three weeks for my two- they pee often and the clumps are generally about the size of a tennis ball, so we go through the litter pretty quickly (no health problems, just thirsty kittens).

Overall, though, I don't think it's great enough to justify being 1.5-2 times the price of other litters.

I used to have a cat that was real picky about her litter because I tried to switch it once... The two I have now though I dont think are too picky... sassy little Skeeter maybe but I dont think Godzilla would mind. I'll find out when I get around to buying a bag.

They make litter boxes?? Link?

Be very careful. I tried to switch to Feline Pine and had one cat who objected strenously and made that clear by urinating into the window A/C unit! Talk about nasty--had to have it professionally cleaned. He never did that before and he never did it after (I, of course, went RIGHT back to clumping clay!). I tried it again with a different cat and had a similar result. It's clay for me! I use the best, most dustless one on the market (Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat) and it works great.
How much does Dr. Elsey's run??...

If you go from a clay litter straight to the wood stove pellets, it can cause issues, as far as cats not using it. You're supposed to switch gradually, like how you switch onto a new food.

I'll get the link when I have a little more time

I don't use Feline Pine, since it's wood stove pellets that are overpriced for the cat picture on the bag.

my cats pee/poo to dr. elsey's precious cat clumping litter (that one in dark blue bag) and I love this litter. But it's clumping litter, however really dust-free, no smell at all, clumps are hard and don't fall apart. It's 100% natural clay, hypo-allergenic, 99,9% dust free, no silica based stuff or so.

I used to buy tidy cat, but precious cat is way better.

Price is not bad either. In my town pet smart carries it for $16.79 for 40 pounds bag. if you do not have pet smart around, they often have it on amazon for about $20 for 40 pound with free prime or over $25 shipping.

I like clumping litter better than those absorbing litters because I can track how much my cats pee and how big clumps are (I am obsessive about UTI in cats and I know that if I see multiple too small clumps of urine, then something might be going on. in this regard clumping litter beats non-clumping ones)

Konotashi I like that litterbox... I just wish it had a hood version. I could hide it in one of those fake furniture things.... Maybe if I end up liking the pellet thing. What do you use by the way if you don't use feline pine? Also isn't the Planet Petco natural pine pellets the same thing as feline pine?? They are a little cheaper and I'm assuming they are the exact same....

For you Worlds Best fans. Anyone tried the Natures Miracle Natural Care litter?? It's supposed to be corn like the worlds best and it seems to have good reviews.... And be slightly cheaper.... I know they make good odor products so I wouldn't doubt their litter being good too....
