Just wondering why this specific cat has never (to my knowledge) been heard meowing or purring. He was brought in by a family that didn't want him, so we don't have much info. He is about 2 years old and one of the most friendly cats we've ever had. Cuddles, rubs against you, lets you rub his belly and isn't phased by other cats hissing at all. Feels like petting silk too.

Also seems to have somewhat of a nervous, maybe excited(?) tick. If scared or anything, he'll lap his tongue out repeatedly.

Some cats just aren't vocal. Even in shelters when they're all vying for attention, some are a bit more introverted, and just don't like to talk when there are other cats around doing all the talking. Some cats just don't purr, or have to be EXTREMELY comfortable before they do (i.e. not in a shelter) it was years before I heard our last cat purr after she grew up.

Nothing to worry about I'd say.

I have a cat that is not very vocal at all, and in the beginning he hardly purred at all or mewed. We didn't hear him mew for months. He is still a very quiet cat, he is 5 years old now. Some cats are just like that, I think.

My husband just reminded me that we were also worried about Taffy's lack of mewing and purring when we took him in, and we even had the vet do xrays on him to see if he had any kind of old injury or anything that seemed weird but the vet found nothing. We thought he was unable to mew or purr in the beginning. And eventually Taffy did start to mew a little more and purr a little, but he is still very quiet.

Sounds perfect to me!! I have 5 cats that almost NEVER make a sound. Except for the pitter patter of little paws coming down the stairs on occasion you would never know they were here. My Maddie does not have an audible purr at all. The only time I know she is purring is if I put my fingers under her chin.

Our cat Lulu was silent for the first 6 months we had her. Now she makes an occasional squeak and a little purr but is still a quiet cat. Unlike our recent arrival Felix who talks almost nonstop and at the top of his voice when separated. It's been a shock and half to go from one extreme to the other, for us as we'll as Lulu
