just to add to my post (as I can't edit it) I'm not saying it is selfish to use a laundromat EG: screw it I'm not getting my machine dirty, I'll use somebody else's.

My post wasn't meant to annoy anybody just to point out I have seen, and had to deal with the mess that pet hair can make to the innards of a washing machine.

In particular the impeller on the pump, it gets wrapped in hair and it's efficiency is massively reduced to the point that the machine fails to drain completely leaving your clothes improperly rinsed.

As has been said, "SELFISH"!

I think I understand. I'm selfish because if my machine is too small to handle my cat bed and I take it to a laundromat; even though I wipe out the machine with oaper towels when I'm done and clean up after myself.

That only those who don't have a washing machine/dryer should be allowed to use a laundromat, because they have "no choice".

Self awareness is good, thanks for pointing out my faults.

I guess I'll take my huge comforter down to the creek. I can use the outhouse on the way back. Maybe kill something for dinner.

Wouldn't want to inconvenience any entitled little princesses and ruin their day. Hope that pea under the mattress doesn't keep them awake all night.

Wading in here with observations made at laundry mats...
At one point in my life, all I had was public laundry mats!
And I'll tell you this...ALL KINDS of gross things get "washed" there!
Whether any of these people had washers and dryers at home...who knows??
Lets just say, I got real good at knowing what days and times, the person who was responsible for cleaning and checking the machines, did it!!
To say that someone, who has a washer and dryer at home, but can't use it, due to size restrictions...is Selfish...is just plain ridiculous!!
I think the people who had washers/dryers at home, were the MOST responsible, when using a laundrymat!
They were the ones like MowMow, who took the time to clean up after themselves...
The other people, would just come in, wash something nasty, and leave!
It's about being Responsible. Period.

If you remember, the TOPIC of this thread was "How to de-hair" a cat bed...

It was, but I had my head bitten off and was called selfish when I suggested she take the hairy cat bed to a laundromat since her washing machine had trouble with the last cat bed she washed.

Their machines are industrial sized and built to handle tougher items than the average home machine (at least my cheap hot point machine).

ETA: For over 20 years I took my horses indoor rug (blanket) to the local laundromat twice a month, same place...twice a month... same manager... same attendant. I always cleaned up after myself and the management never had a problem with me using the machine. Every winter for over 20 years...

I guess some of it was OK, I was living in the dorm and didn't have a washer/dryer so I was allowed.

Oh and 10Cats, I was the OCD one who was wiping out the machine BEFORE my dirty laundry touched it :p Even Danny's rug. Who KNOWS who touched that machine before.. :p

Oh I hear you! I was always doing a washer inspection before I did my laundry!:D

**waving a white flag*** I won't use a laundromat....

Well....what a can of worms I opened...and all I wanted to do was clean some hair (ok...lots of hair) off a cat bed!

I think I'll go off and hide under the hairy bed.....

LOL! Carrie!
Don't take it personally! We're all a BIG family here, and like any family, there's always the potential for "Family Squabbles"!!;):p:D

I believe we could all play Dysfunctional Family Feud.

:) lol I just wanted to add RE my previous post about cat hair clogging up the impellers on washing machines, Obviously industrial machines are much larger, made for constant use have bigger - better filtration and are much better suited for 'dirty' work than a home appliance so I doubt it would bother them at all.

And just to reiterate It is not selfish to use a laundromat if your own machines are not up to the task....That is what the laundromats are there for :)

AH! Speaking as a professional, I can tell you that vacuums exist that will serve your purpose. Your best bet is a sanitaire, OR, if you van get one, A Hafcovac! It will take some time. (patback smiley) But when you're finished, machine wash it and you SHOULD have a clean, sanitary cat bed!

Yes these brushes are amazaeballs! and you are saving money! I didn't mention it thinking in the cat bed t might be tricky but it all depends on the shape of the bed. I keep that brush in my ottoman and i use it on the ottoman and the couch which are microfiber and it works wonders !
