cat massage

I had to post this because it's so funny that I felt compelled to share it with others. I have a kitten who is almost a year old. She and her mother, my other cat, are not allowed to sleep in my bedroom because they crawl all over me all night. So before I go to bed, I shut them out of my bedroom. At first they really didn't like this, but eventually they got used to the routine.

Now, the kitten has figured out that when she hears my alarm go off it means that I am awake. So as soon as my alarm sounds, she sits outside my door whining until I let her into my room. She runs in, tail wagging, super excited to see me. It's a great way to wake up.

The past month though, it's gotten even better. Suma, my kitten has started to give me a massage in the morning. That's right folks, once I let her in the room, I lay back down for a few minutes. She promptly jumps on my back and kneads my shoulders and neck while purring loudly. Once she's worn herself out she falls asleep next to me, but she will literally do this for 10 minutes if I let her. It's hysterical and my neck and shoulders have never felt better. Well done Suma!

I'm going to start reading up on kitty training techniques.

Ahh, claws can make the massage much less pleasant. Suma is an indoor cat and I put soft paws on her (aka Lee Press on Nails). So luckily I don't get pricked in the process. Otherwise I'd have to rethink the routine.

Hi,

how very cute :luv

This is called milk treading and means that your little girl is very relaxed and happy being with you. She is acting like a young kitten again, as the milk treading is used by very young kittens to get mommy's milk bar going :D

My cat Schröder will do this whenever he get the chance- at bed time a 20 minutes "march" over me is normal, also with extended claws. I pull my blanket up to the chin and let him happily tread me giving him occasional tickles to the flanks while he purrs loudly.
