I meant baking powder, like Arm & Hammer. The stuff you put in your refrigerator to kill odors in the yellow orange box. I sprinkle it in with the litter and mix it, when I remember that is. Odor is not a huge issue in our house. I clean the boxes twice a day.

 

It sort of makes sense as coffee is pretty strong whe you smell it. Think how far the aeroma carries thru a house?

Probably will help with the ammonia smell from cat whizz. I really like Arm & hammer baking Soda though. I use a 1 pound box in 10 pounds of litter, mix up real good. I rarely smell the cats "business", soild or liquid.

Seems like coffee might get more costly?

I don't know because I don't drink it.

 

You know what lymekaps - you are right, it's soda. I think they both work though. I was thinking soda was in a metal can and powder was in the box... :?

Starbucks have LOTS AND LOTS of free coffee grounds!!! I mix it 50:50 with the litter. I also use coffee grounds in my garden.

 

I use coffee grounds to keep snails away from my plants and it works really well - and of course that means no icky snail killer on the ground to be licked up by the kitties.

I never thought of using it in the cat liter.

I'm sure you could use fresh grounds, but they'd be pretty expensive. My suggestion is to try the baking soda first, it's about 50 cents for an off brand box of it(the small boxes).

I put a few tbsp of fresh coffee grounds in the litter. It works really well for smell but no I read that caffeine can be very toxic to cats. It sticks to their paws and they lick it off. Now I wonder if I should dump the whole box. And if a few tbsp in a big box is enough to be toxic.
