Cuts on the outside of cat's ear

This is the second time I've noticed some small scratches/cuts (dried blood) on the outside of my cat's ear. She's an indoor-only cat, so it's not that it could've been caused by another animal. Could it just be that she's scratching too hard? I don't think it's ear mites, because I've looked in her ears and they seem clean. She sleeps with me at night, so if it were fleas, I'd probably notice by now. I'd take her to the vet except she is extremely opposed to being handled by anyone but me (she has to get sedated for her vet visits).

Mango gets those too and I blame it on me not cutting his nails regularly. Do you trim your cat's nails? Mango just had a big scab ontop of his head. No clue where that came from. I start to panic, but I know better, he is my baby and anytime I see blood or scabs I get upset. He is indoor only too.

I'd love to clip her nails, but she'd probably freak out. ;) I do have a scratch post for her though, she goes through one about every 3-4 months. She also runs into walls/windows, so that could be it -- about a month ago she had a sore on her eye from trying to attack a bird through the window.

Scratching posts are great, but their nails need trimmed regularly. They can get so long and grow into the pads of their feet. Mango hates it when I do it. I used to take him to the vet, now I just grab him and sit on him and then cut a few at a time. Maybe you can wrap your cat in a towel to cut them.
