ok i have a list of some cat names that i like and either havent heard or havent heard often.

i also wanted to ask if you would advise against changing a cat's name. i know a lot of people call their cats different names, but if the cat's been called one name for 3 years, how do you think it would react if i tried to give it a second or totally separate name?

as you might be able to tell, i like spanish and italian names. if you have questions on how to pronounce the names, just ask, but of course you don't have to pronounce them like i do. haha.

when I have adopted cats who were already named, I didn't change their names.. but I know people who have, and I don't think that the cats really care all that much.

To be honest, I don't really call my cats by their "real" names as much as I call them by nicknames...

Melina is Bean, Bird, Little One, and Lina. Sometimes I call her "little owl" because of the way she sits and makes her eyes look wide.

Tyrael is Tee, T-Bag (it was his gangster name), and Baggins

Martell has it the worst of them all. His nicknames are Tell, Pocket, Zubby, Bubby Long Johns, Mom's White Boy, and Sock Back (because he is inevitably draped with a sock when he helps me do laundry).

Their nicknames sort of evolve over time, and they seem to just accept it as "mom's being crazy again". ;)

I also call my cats by all sorts of daft nicknames! I think they still listen to me though! Sylvester often goes by- Syvian or Sylvestricles! I call Tootie Tootrasapien! And poor little Gizmo sometimes gets called Gizmeena! I think I just made these random names up and they've just stuck! Poor cats I know!
As for changing a cats name, I would say if you do go for it maybe choosing a name that will sound similar to the cat would cause less confusion and they may still react to it. E.g from Binky to Bobby still has the same sort of beginning and ending sound to it if you know what I mean!

Right now, I have Kip, Mickey, Little Girl and Boo. Boo was a stray I took in last July. It took him a few months to realize what his name is, but he sure knows it, now! All I have to do is say BOO! and he comes running, no matter where he is. Mickey knows all his names: Mick-Mick, Mittles, Baby, Beautiful, and Kip and Little Girl come to whatever I call them, but Kip knows his very well, too. I have named strays that stay around; Cindy and Corkie. They are starting to respond to those names. As soon as they trust me enough to get near them, I will bring them to a TNR clinic and will probably keep them, too.

I got my cats from a shelter. The owner of the shelter said it wouldn't matter if you changed their names. Indiana and Lucky were the names I chose. The answer to their names along with some others. Indiana doesn't even go by Indiana (unless he is in trouble) he goes by Indy. Lucky has many nicknames. "Lucky Lou" "Pretty Girl" are a few. My favorite names are

Harmony
Baby
Cely
Emily
Max
Charlie
Indy
Lucky
