Kitten's fur is permanently dirty?

This stray kitten recently went missing for three days. When we found her, she was very dirty and her white fur was almost black. We tried washing her with warm water and baby shampoo, but the fur around her chest and paws are still very black... She kept crying during the bath so I don't really want to force-bathe her anymore. Will her fur remain dirty...? It's just kinda sad to look at her, and I don't want her licking at her fur since it may contain some poisonous stuff.

In extreme cases like this, you should use Dawn dishwashing liquid. Poor little baby. I know you don't want to give her another bath. :(

This reminds me of Sam. He was a silver Persian that I adopted when he was 12. I was so annoyed by his back feet - they looked so filthy, that I brought him to a groomer and asked them to clean his feet really, really well - I just could not get them clean. Much to my embarrassment they told me afterwards that his fur was just that blackish brown color on his feet!!

Of all the cats I've ever had I miss Sam the most.
