Meows all night?

Hi Everyone,

My neighbors decided to move and decided not to take their cat with them. They asked me if I wanted her, or they would 'let her go' in the country. I said I would take her because I was looking to adopt a cat in the near future. She is a very sweet cat. She is around six months old. She's definitely a lap cat and quite talkative.

I love the fact that she is talkative.....But....She 'talks' all night. She sits outside my door meowing. She always has enough food, water and her litter box is clean. I will leave my door open, so that she can sleep with us, but she'll just sit on the bed meowing. I have taken her to the vet for all of her routine shots and she is neutered. So it's not a health issue.

She sleeps all day and is extremely active and talkative all night. I wouldn't mind this except the fact that I need my rest, too.

Is there anything I can do?

Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Hmm... I can think of 2 things you can try.

1. Since its new to your house it could miss its old owners. So give it time to get used to you.

2. The old owners might have known about this so the decided to keep it entertained at night. Mabey finding a toy it loves and leaving it out at night would help.

Hope I helped!

Wake her up! Do you work during the day or are you at home? If you work, try to make sure she's awake when you are (if you get up at 6, wake her up and try to get her to play a bit). Then, when you get home, more play. Keep her awake for most of the time you're home and not asleep. If you're home during the day, wake her up again mid day. Cats sleep a lot, but you'll want to switch her from being totally nocturnal and make sure she's awake mostly during the day.
