You need to make the inside more fun and interesting so she won't want to go out.

That's what my Ariel has been doing since having a little escape today! Some cats love the outdoors. You might want to play with Mouse when you get back inside to 'reward' her for being IN the house and getting her mind off of the great outdoors.

 

Same with Kitty, We can NEVERRRR leave any of our house doors open for over 5 seconds otherwise he gets outside.

I also have a harness and leash for him and that really helps him to get outside and get abit of fresh air

 

I wish I could help with Mouse but I don't have any ideas, just wanted to say it's nice to see you posting again Welcome back.

Everyone is desperate to know how Sparta is doing!

 

I'm sorry, but I don't have any suggestions for the leash training or trying to keep her inside. But I just wanted to ditto MowMow and say that we've all missed hearing from you two and want to know how miss Sparta is doing!

As far as keeping Mouse from sneaking outside, you and your family are just going to have to pay really close attention to where she is before you open the door. You can try having her favorite toy in your hand and as you get ready to open the door, throw the toy towards an area that is opposite of the door. When she is distracted, then open the door and leave. You can also try doing it with her favorite treat, too.

 

I usually rattle/bump the door with my purse or groceries a few times to scare my cats away from the door if it's not time for them to go outside. Once I'm inside, I'll get them a treat or toy to distract them (and as a reward for not escaping).

 

I'm kind of glad my cat doesn't like outside.

I've taken her out a few times and she just lays there and won't move.

She does enjoy sitting in the windows and in the screened in porch though.

Wish I were some help.

 

Sparta is doing fine. :smile: The second time we brought Sparta home( after the infection), Sparta and Mouse were B.F.F.'s again.:smiles

 

Great to see you posting again, we all missed you, your mom, and the furry pet clan you have. Glad to hear that Sparta has healed and is back to her normal self being BFF's with Mouse. Welcome back!!!

 

It sounds as though Mouse has learned a thing or two about being a diva and getting her own way Kitties are great at pouting to get their own way.

There's probably not a whole lot you can do except perhaps before you go outside plan something exciting that will ONLY happen when she comes inside - maybe a certain type of treat that she only gets when returning from outdoors. Or maybe a toy that gets hidden except when she's coming indoors from a visit in the wild. If you can keep it by the door so it's an immediate thing and because she gets it right when she enters she'll learn to associate it with coming inside.

 

My late cat would dart out really bad when we opened the door. What we did is teamed up. One of us went outside and got the garden hose, then the other opened the door to 'go out' and when Pepper darted she got sprayed. After a couple times she wouldn't dart out without really looking around first. That hesitation gave us time from then on to push her back in the door. We really didn't have further trouble again...for 16 years.
