Our outdoor cats

I live in the Philippines where it's common to keep cats and dogs outside the house, usually just roaming the garden area. We all have high gates so dogs don't get lost. And our cats usually come back.

Cats are tough creatures over here, have learned to look both ways before crossing roads, and choose to leave the house when they wish, and return hours, days, weeks, months, years later.

Basically our house is like a soup kitchen for cats. Whoever comes, we feed them the best we can afford, and we interact with them a lot. We let them do whatever they like; they have free reign of our front and back yards. They can come and go as they please.

None are neutered or spayed, but we are planning on giving them rabies shots and we take care of any kittens they may produce. I've mentioned having them fixed to my parents a few times, but they just don't feel up to spending money on the procedures (6 cats, after all).

I'm starting work soon so hopefully I'll be able to save up to give them the pampered lifestyle they deserve. (Though my parents will never let me make them indoor cats.)

(Sorry if the pics are sideways. I don't know how it happened, but in the files on my computer, the pics are upright.)

Very nice! I actually think that in a perfect world where there are no cars all cats should be allowed to free roam - but that is not to be in 99% of the world. I enjoyed your pics - even if I have to crane my neck to view them! I also very much enjoyed seeing your tidy, pretty garden. I just got back inside from raking up over 10 HUGE bags of leaves, so kinda pooped.

I agree. These are wonderful photos and incredible gardens. I can't tell if the calico cat in the bushes is the same one sitting on the paving stones beside the bush, but those are my favorite pics.

It's unfortunate your parents won't spend the money for spay/neuter procedures since the cats roam free. Let us know if you would like the forum members to help you with any information to help persuade them.
