Should I switch foods?

So, currently my cats get half wet and half dry. The dry right now is Taste of the Wlid Rocky Mountain feline. Is this good? or should i switch? Another food I was considering was Felidae Pure Elements, is it better? Also, my local feed store just got Wellness Core dry in for a lot cheaper than most stores, should I switch to this, because I have heard several people say it causes crystals more so than other foods. Thanks for your help:)

I haven't heard anything about Wellness Core leading to crystals; I believe it's one of the best dry food brands, very high in protein. I would suggest it provided the crystal buildup thing is false... and as long as your cats like it and it's an affordable option for you.

Felidae and Taste of the Wild are both good foods. Felidae isn't grain-free, I don't think, so between those two I would stick with Taste of the Wild.

I've heard rumors about CORE and crystals, but nothing substantiated. Reality is that any dry food has the potential to cause crystals.

CORE Original is a better food than Felidae or TOTW (or the new CORE flavors)...it doesn't have pea or potato protein and is a higher protein overall.

I didn't start any of the rumors, but I used to feed the CORE dry kibble to my cats, and one of them got crystals, blockage, and emergency surgery. I have absolutely no evidence that it was that specific food (I'm more inclined to blame kibble in general), but you can understand I won't feed Wellness (even the canned).

For whatever it's worth, my vet (who had recommended the Wellness in the first place) claims to have done some research following Mingo's surgery, and she is no longer recommending it.

I did not know about the rumor about wellness core and crystals, but I will tell you this. I am a big believer in feeding only wet foods, but I do have one cat, who was a former kibble-o-holic, and she does get a small amount of kibble before bedtime, I'm talking like maybe 10 little kibbles. She is 10 years old, and recently had extended blood work done, and all looked really well, kidney functions were great, but the vet did say that she had some crystals in her urine. And she eats canned food, in small amounts, 3x a day, plus the kibble in the evening, and it is Wellness Core. The vet did say that it could be that the crystals were from the urine sitting before it is tested and he was not overly concerned about it, and she does only get a small amount, but I wonder if the WC dry is to blame for the crystals? Or it could just be that any dry food is causing this problem. I would actually tend to believe dry food in general, rather than to pick on Wellness Core. I do feed Wellness canned, grain free, and not the core, to all of my cats.

I'd be inclined to agree with that suggestion from your vet. I've read from several sources now about how unreliable those tests are if they're not done immediately. Just one more example of how screwed up the veterinary system is that they would keep sending such tests out to labs in this fashion. Makes me wonder how many cats have been put on "prescription" diets or even subjected to surgery out of a misdiagnosed problem with crystals.
